The new development borders Pribinova Street in the north, Apollo bridge in the east, the residential building of the existing Eurovea complex in the west, and the Danube embankment in the south. EUROVEA2’s dominant mixed-use project will comprise six buildings: enlarged shopping gallery, underground car park, residential building overlooking the river bank, two office buildings, and a residential tower. The second stage will continue construction of a built-up area of proportional height as the existing buildings, while gradually increasing in height towards Apollo bridge. “Near the bridge we plan to build a dominant high-rise as a significant 46-floor landmark,” observes Peter Korbačka, outlining the project details.
Urban planning of zone and public spaces
EUROVEA2 mixed-use project follows and complements the first project stage’s urban concept, while further developing the street network and considering the surrounding urban structure’s character. “Eurovea has already brought life to the Bratislava embankment, and the second stage will further enhance and extend the attraction of this unique location,” emphasises Mr. Korbačka. The project design will support the Danube as the key asset that shapes and defines Bratislava’s urban character, particularly by optimising the embankment and supporting numerous leisure and sport activities by the water. Visitors can look forward to sports activities, shops, services, jobs, playgrounds, and a wide range of gastronomy options. The popular waterfront promenade will extend as far as Apollo bridge.
“These activities aim to get visitors closer to the Danube, and to really open up the waterfront’s potential,” he adds. In combination with the planned footbridge connection to the adjacent Nové Lido development project across the river, EUROVEA2 will also shape Bratislava’s position as a ‘city on the Danube’.
Solutions for transport and related services
Eurovea is harmonically integrated into the surrounding urban environment and features convenient connections to public transport, bike paths, and the urban transport network. Together with extending Pribinova boulevard, the EUROVEA2 design also comprises a conceptual solution for public transport, connection of new and existing bike paths, and creating more pathways. EUROVEA2 will increase the quality of Danube cycle connections, and provide the ideal place for relaxing, social and leisure activities. The proposed tram connection from Šafárikovo Námestie via Pribinova and Košická Streets to Ružinov with the alternative digression in the direction of the winter river port – Vrakuňa and Mlynské Nivy districts can further contribute to the compact character of the city and reduce vehicular traffic.
